What are PRP & PRF?
PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) and PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin) are treatments used to accelerate healing in various areas of the body.
PRP is a concentration of platelets in plasma obtained by spinning blood in a centrifuge to isolate platelets. PRP contains growth factors and cytokines that help repair and regenerate tissues.
Compared to PRP, PRF is a newer, more advanced generation of PRP, which uses a higher concentration of growth factors and includes stem cells, fibrin, and white blood cells. It also uses your blood, but is spun more slowly, preserving more white blood cells, stem cells, and the fibrin matrix. PRF forms a fibrin matrix that allows a slower, sustained release of growth factors over 7–10 days—giving the skin more time to regenerate and produce collagen compared to PRP, which acts faster but shorter. This provides longer-lasting healing and tissue regeneration.
Benefits of PRP & PRF
- Skin rejuvenation
- Hair growth
- Scar reduction
- Collagen stimulation
- Skin stretch mark improvement
How PRP & PRF Work
For Hair Growth
Hair follicles naturally cycle through growth (anagen), transition (catagen), and rest (telogen). Disruptions from genetics, hormones (like DHT), aging, or inflammation can cause follicles to shrink and stop producing hair (miniaturization).
PRP and PRF work by improving the follicle environment through:
- Reviving dormant follicles – Growth factors stimulate inactive follicles to re-enter the growth phase.
- Increasing blood supply – VEGF promotes new blood vessels for better oxygen and nutrient delivery.
- Enhancing healing – Bioactive proteins boost cell repair, stem cell signalling, and reduce oxidative stress.
- Reducing miniaturization – They counteract DHT effects, reduce inflammation, and support follicle regeneration.
For Skin Rejuvenation
- Stimulate collagen – Delivering growth factors that activate fibroblasts, triggering the skin’s natural repair and regeneration process. This leads to new collagen and elastin, which tighten the skin, improve texture, and reduce fine lines.
- Improve texture & tone – PRP and PRF promote cell turnover, which helps reduce pigmentation, acne scars, and rough or uneven skin. Treatments can lead to brighter, smoother, more even-toned skin.
- Enhance wound healing – Platelets release healing proteins that accelerate tissue repair. This makes PRP/PRF ideal for use with microneedling or laser treatments, speeding up recovery and boosting results.
- Boost hydration & skin thickness – Improves blood flow and stimulates the skin’s natural hydration process. It can plump thin or crepey skin, especially around delicate areas like the eyes and neck.
The Process of PRP & PRF
- Collect blood from the patient’s arm.
- The blood is processed in a centrifuge, which separates the platelets.
- The PRP or PRF is administered into targeted skin areas or thinning sections of the scalp, often in combination with microneedling treatment.
